01 · THE STORY

Bring the bloom your garden saved for last.

Best Last Bloom celebrates the quiet triumph of a flower still looking its best as September turns toward fall. Gardeners bring a single stem in a canning jar to the Mid-Continent Railway Museum, creating a colorful display against the museum’s historic rail setting.

The rules intentionally keep the competition open: any age may enter, any type of flower is eligible, and participants may submit more than one bloom as long as each single stem has its own appropriately sized canning jar and entry fee. Judging happens under the pavilion, with a first-place ribbon and bragging rights for the winner.

Sometimes the season’s last flower is the one people remember most.
